Day 75 / Lago - Muxía / 35.33 km

I slept well. I arranged with the owner to meet at the pizzeria, which also provides breakfast, so she can bring me back to Lago.Strangely he drops me of 5 k further. The advantage is that is that I need do run 5 k less today, the disadvantage is that I will not have run the entire route from Gent to Finisterre. I feel somewhat guilty for 5 seconds.
The first kilometres is a road going down, the sky is blue and the sun starts to shine. Not a bad start of a day running. I’m looking forward to today. Sometime around noon I will hit the coast. I will stay in Muxía, a small fisher village with plenty off fish restaurants. I have booked a hotel room overlooking the sea. Life could be worse. The scenery is beautiful and quickly I leave the road for a small path running up and down through forest and fields. A lot of windmills around. Their woozing can be heard from far.

After less the 10k I arrive at the fork where the left red takes you to Finisterre and the right one to Muxía. I take the road to Muxía, which is a busy road going down. Easy to run but a lot of traffic. Luckily after a short time I’m send back into the woods and small paths, where I will stay for the most of the remainder of the run. I pass some small villages where time seems to have stopped. Mainly old people. Farmers of some cows or sheep. A lot of women dressed in black. Widows.

I pass some other pilgrims, but not more then 5. And although the scenery is beautiful and the path is not to difficult I’m not really enjoying it as I’m not feeling very well. My stomach is complaining, my right feet is nagging more the usual and I’m feeling somewhat light headed. I weather a muesli bar and drink a coke ate a bar but it does not really improve. I must say that I have been lucky so far as I did not had a lot of physical problems since I started, but it’s no fun. Around k 25 I decide to stop to run and start walking, which improves somewhat the situation.

When I exit a forest and come out of a bend I see sea for the first time. The last 7k is hilly terrain with so steep ascents and descents. With the walking my stomach seems to be happy and I’m  feeling better.

The last kilometre I walk on the beach to the hotel. The sun is shining, some wind, blue sky and some small clouds. The salty smell of the sea is fantastic. I check in into the hotel. The view from my room is great. It’s 14.00, Spanish lunch time. Time to treat myself with some seafood....life can be hard on Wednesday afternoon.

The lunch was as fine as the picture. I must say the Albariño was a perfect fit. In order to respect Spanish culture I went to my room and fell asleep looking at the sea. Around 18.00 I had some coffees in the hotel bar to wake up whilst writhing yesterday’s blog (I wrote it already yesterday evening but everything got lost when the blog app crashed on my iPad). Before dinner I made a walk on the Muxía coastline to enjoy the beginning of the sunset.

I finalised the day with a small dinner at local bar. Some squid, a glass of wine and television broadcasting football. The perfect end of an almost perfect day. Tomorrow I will run from Muxía to Finisterre, the end of the known world. 28 k away and with the promise of more seafood.

Lessons Learned :
- It’s no fun to run when your not feeling well. 99.9 % of the journey I felt great.
- It’s good to smell seafood and the ocean.
- Day 76 will be the last running day.
- some English do not known Cordon Bleu, Patatas Fritas or Salade Mixta.
