80.
80 days to go.
It seems only yesterday since I wrote my last post. Time seems to be going fast and faster as we are nearing March 3rd.
Training continues to be going as scheduled, although running last week mostly on the treadmill due to weather conditions.
Between X-mas and New Year we will be spending vacation in the Eifel region (Germany). Besides spending a great time with the family I'm looking forward to do some extensive uphill / downhill trail running. I plan to do around daily 20 K with full backpack and gear and continue to practice running with poles. As we will be around 7 days in the Eifel area I expect to be doing around 120 k of trail. I hope the weather will cooperate......
Below you can find an example of a planned training run.
On the gear side I (finally) decided the sleeping bag approach by opting for the Nordisk Oscar +10. With a weight of 380 grams and promises of sleeping comfort at 10 degrees Celsius it should be a good a option balancing weight - sleeping comfort - cost.
I'm also testing the new Hoka One One ATR 4 running shoe which is the follow-up of the current ATR 3 I'm using. So far I find the AT3 better (better fitting toe-box and cushioning), problem is that I'm not longer able to find the AT3 in my shoe-size anymore. As I will need around 3 pairs I will need to "upgrade" to the new ATR4 which is not bad (lighter, improved mesh and water protection) but could have been been better. Also a positive evolution with the ATR4 are the looks ; Hoka is not known for nice designs....(some examples)
The next weeks I will be focusing on completing my clothing kit.
I also started to investigate sleeping options in detail between Gent and Reims. Based upon the blogs read thus far it is note always easy to find sleeping. The distance to cover during this leg is 300 K so expect to need a solution for 5 nights. The first night I will be sleeping with friends (including a pasta dinner and wine...).Second night will be somewhere around Tournai/Doornik which has plenty of options, only after Tournai options seem limited. If you look at the map you will see mainly forest and small villages. I contacted a number of sleeping addresses I found on blogs but email seems to be slow in France. We'll see.
