3 days to go.
150 days Ago I published my first blog and what seemed at that time far away is suddenly very close. Now Saturday it's (finally) departure time.
Today and yesterday I have said goodbye to my colleagues at AXA Technology where I worked as IT consultant for the last 2,5 years. I really appreciated working at AXA and the support received. I wish them all the best ! But now it is time for new adventures !
The last couple of weeks I continued my training but at a lower intensity at around 75K / week. Last Saturday I did a last extensive run of around 25 k fully equipped with positive result : low heartbeat, next day no pains and the feeling that I could have continued to run if I wanted. The next couple of days I'm planning a daily run of around 10-15 km to stay in the "mood". I also have planned a some physio to give the legs a nice threat....
Backpack and travelling kit are complete with a final weight (including water) of 5200 gr. I expect to end around 5600 gr. with food. There a still a couple of items with could be considered a luxury (Ipad, cables,..) so still have some options to reduce weight if required. Interesting fact ; One can reduce the weight of a full pack of Ibrufen with 27gr if you take the pills out of their package, 10 gr if you remove the stick of a toothbrush, cut unnecessary straps 40 gr,....
I also arranged sleeping for the first 3 days. As from Saturday it will become a daily routine to organise sleeping for the next days. Finding sleeping in France between Doornik and Reims seems to be sometimes a challenge in certain regions. I will see...
As mentioned previously I'm looking forward for people who want to run/bike along on Saturday. Some have already committed (the "real" friends) to run along. If you still want to join (and want to become a real friend) hereby the latest details :
Rendez-vous : 9.30 - at the entrance of St.Jacobs church which is located at the side of the "rommelmarkt". It seems that the church is closed between November and March (I heard the priest has been spotted on a Metal cruise) so if it rains we will need to take shelter in a nearby cafe...
Start : 10.00 (genau ; korrekt ; akkurat ; pünktlich ; haargenau ; haarklein ; haarfein ; haarscharf ; exakt ; präzise)
1.St.Jacobs - Merelbeke : +/- 9km - 45 min break - Public transport available.
2. Merelbeke - Gavere - +/-12k - 60 min lunchbreak - Public transport available.
3. Gavere - Ename - +/- 11 K - 30' Break
4. Ename - Oudenaarde -+/- 5 km. - Drink (Ename) - Publick transport available
The planning above is to aim to arrive in Oudenaarde around 16.00 nothing more, nothing less....One of my objectives is not to plan to much (i'm still training). Running pace will be around 9K/H but always on the principle "samen uit - samen thuis".
And now the weather forecast : A little rain is forecasted in Gent (afternoon) no rain for Oudenaarde so expect (hope) to stay dry. The good news is that temperatures will be around 8° Celsius which is 16 degrees higher then this morning.....
I don't think I have a lot more to share for the moment. As from Saturday I will try to give a daily update on progress so stay tuned (I'm getting millennial at my 50's)
Oh yes, before I forget big kisses to the wife for making this happen. Today Jo and I are 14 years married. Letting me go to Santiago is a hell of wedding anniversary present !
Song of the day : Lucky Man
