Day 38 / Sainte-Foy-La-Grande - Saint-Hilaire-de-la-Noaille / 42.12 km

Today I’m running from one long name to a another long name. I slept well. I buy breakfeast and lunch. I have breakfeast. Today is 42 km. I leave the first long name following a busy departemental. After 5 km I follow a mix of small local roads and paths through vineyards for the rest of the day. The path today is like a reversed wave : short steep climbs of 50 meters,followed by a long descent of 2 to 3  kilometres. Around midday I have ran almost 30 km. No people around.

The village secretary of Coutures gives me a stamp for my credential and a free Orangina. I own my free Orangina due to my complaining no shops were open today. It’s Monday, the day in France even more shops are closed than usual. Not sure that’s even possible. Maybe I should start more complaining. After my free Orangina and lunch I continue to run the last 10 k of today. Strangely the vineyards disappear for a5 kilometres, to suddenly reappear. The wine region I’m running through is called entres-deuc-mers, both red and white wines are cultivated here. 

Today I’m sleeping in a ‘acceuil pélerin’ in the last long name. I’m happy to arrive. The host is a friendly, mother like, farmer lady. After having a shower I take a little nap. The advantage of running is that in the afternoon there is enough time left for taking a nap. Dinner is wild boar hunted by the husband, Serge, the weekend before. I’m not a big meat eater but I wished there was more wild boar killed last weekend.

I will be entering the region ‘La Landes’. Finding lodging is difficult here. Based upon lodging availability it’s either running 25 or 60km tomorrow. As within a couple days I will be start climbing towards the Pyrenees I chose the sensible option of 25 km tomorrow and 35 km the day after. 

Lessons learned :

- Man say the stupidest things out of genuine concern.

- More wild boar. Preferably on my plate.

- Monsieur Agricole’s algorithms start to show significant flaws.
