Day 51 / Riezu / restday

Yesterday, Saturday, would turn out to be a small discovery appetizer compared to the discovery tour Stef had in mind for me on Sunday.

I woke up at 8.00 and stayed in bed trying to upload Friday’s blog. After almost 2 hours trying I finally succeed to upload the post, just in time for breakfast. When arriving in the dinner room, the coffee was served and I enjoyed,  again, a extensive breakfeast.

At 11.00 we started with a tour which would take until 18.30 in the evening. I’m not able to post all the pictures of the sites and birds Stef shown to me. I’m not even gonna try to reproduce all the things I learned as it would take me the rest of the evening. I strongly recommend to come over to Navarra , stay at Palacio de Riezu ,let Stef drive you around in the region and learn a lot on vultures, birds in general, the region geography, politics, oaks, .....for diner he will take you to an excellent pizza restaurant in the middle of nowhere where you not only get a great pizza but is also the starting point of a short hike to a mirador with a stunning view over the valley (I know I’m sounding as a tripadvisor review but Stef’s tour was really awesome!).

Ron and Mieke have a good look ! You’re famous in Navarra....(this is a picture on a infoboard)

We return around 18.30 in Riezu and have to Spanish standards an early dinner. Both the guide and the guided are tired of a day trotting along. Dinner is  mackerel with Piementos and setas de ostra. Some wine. .. To late again, 23.00, I go to bed. My head is full with all the things I’ve seen and learned. Thanks Stef.

Ha ha, greaet memories, I was even skinny then ;-)
I think that I would not be able to climb to that cliff anymore as my fear of heights has increased even more over the years. But I remember seeing the griffon vultures (if I remember their name correctly) so close over there you could almost touch them....
